RISE OF THE WOMEN, RISE OF THE NATION

Who said women are the weaker sex? From swaying to anti government chants to raising powerful protest slogans, women in Djibouti are surfacing as unlikely challengers to the injustice and oppression inflicted by the longstanding government of President Guelleh. Some fearing arrest, protest within the confines of their homes, others take to the street to openly voice their dissatisfaction and register dissension with the tyrannical ways of the existing regime. We are witnessing a burgeoning opposition movement led by the women of the country as they stand in disdain of the unjust imprisonment of Pilot Fouad Youssouf Ali and Djibouti’s own Joan of Arc – Mouna Chalana.
